2023 was a good year for Huron County beef says HCBP President Bob Bennett

Huron County Beef Producers President Bob Bennett, at the organization’s annual meeting in Brussels held on Jan. 17, said it’s been another good year for the beef industry in Huron County.
In his president’s address at the meeting, held at the Brussels Legion, Bennett said that the Huron County Beef Producers have increased their outreach in the last 12 months, engaging with local schools and 4-H clubs, while also giving back to the community through local food banks.
He also said he was happy to announce that the organization’s annual steak barbecue would be returning to Brussels, set to be held on July 13.
On a wider scale, he noted his sense of pride as a part of a “great industry”, adding that he felt that beef is truly one of the best proteins in the world and that the Huron County Beef Producers are all doing very good work.
The Huron County Beef Producers’ executive will remain the same as 2023 for 2024. Bob Bennett will remain the president, while Dan Hoggart will serve as vice-president, Kittie MacGregor remains the secretary/treasurer and Harvey Hoggart stays the Advisory Councillor to the Beef Farmers of Ontario, while Kevin McArter is the past-president.
The organization’s directors for 2024 will be: Pete Baird, Ron Bennett, Bob Bennett, Brent Black, Drew Black, Kelly Boven, Joel Brodie, Ian Caldwell, Ron Cook, Joanne Cook, Dallas Coultes, Paul Coultes, Les Falconer, Terry Greidanus, Harvey Hoggart, Dan Hoggart, Jason Hoggart, Tim Klopp, Kittie MacGregor, Kevin McArter, Matt McCall, Elliott Miller, Chad Pickering, Alan Powe, Doug Scott, Ralph Scott, Don Sholdice, Matt Shortreed, Ron Stevenson, Glen Walker, Owen Weber, John Wright, Co Zondag and Mike Lyons.
The club could not populate a full list of representatives for the annual meeting of the Beef Farmers of Ontario - set for Feb. 21-22 - but some names were confirmed.
The Huron County Beef Producers need 11 voting delegates for the meeting, in addition to four alternates and Advisory Councillor Harvey Hoggart.
Voting delegates that came forward the night of the meeting are: Bob Bennett, Brent Black, Ron Cook, Dallas Coultes, Dan Hoggart, Elliott Miller, Matt Shortreed, Glen Walker, Dawson Coultes and Alex Coultes. Alternates are Ron Bennett, Joanne Cook and Terry Greidanus.
The membership will fill out its roster ahead of the meeting.
Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb was in attendance for the meeting and he thanked the Huron County Beef Producers for their invitation and hospitality.
He congratulated Neil Rintoul on his retirement after spending 59 years as a director for the Beef Producers and told those in attendance that meetings like the Beef Producers’ annual meeting are helpful for him in terms of understanding the issues facing farmers so he can bring those concerns back to Ottawa.
Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson was unable to attend, as she was committed to attend the Dairy Farmers of Ontario annual general meeting, but thanked the organization for all it had done in the past year by way of a letter.
