The Blyth Brussels U21 Crusaders’ season ended over the weekend with the squad falling short of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) championship.
Late last month the team captured the Western Ontario Athletics Association (WOAA) championship, earning the locals a berth at the OMHA finals.
The Crusaders entered the round-robin-style tournament on the weekend against the other teams in the U21 Group 1 division, including the Thorold Blackhawks, the West Niagara Flying Aces and the Centre Hastings Grizzlies. The tournament was held in Whitby.
On Friday, the Crusaders faced off against the Aces, but were edged out 1-0. Later that day, the Grizzlies posted a 4-0 victory over the Crusaders. On Saturday, the Blackhawks claimed a 6-0 win over the Crusaders.
The Blackhawks would go on to win the tournament, claiming the top spot in the province.
