Brussels parade nixed for new Brussels Christmas Experience
BY SHAWN LOUGHLIN
In place of the community’s traditional Santa Claus parade, organizers have turned to the Brussels Christmas Experience, which includes a number of safe holiday events next month.
In an interview with The Citizen, Huron East Councillor Zoellyn Onn says the event will move ahead on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 6-8 p.m., including a stop-by visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Richmond Square (across from the Brussels Post Office) and a living Nativity scene at The Mill, sponsored by Brussels United Church. The experience also includes a home and business decorating contest and a children’s colouring competition.
Those wishing to participate in the decorating competition are asked to take a picture of their home or business and then post it to the Brussels Christmas Experience Facebook page. That way, people can visit the page and create their own route if they want to check out the village’s holiday decorations.
Onn said participants will all be entered into a raffle for a shop-local gift basket.
As for the children’s colouring contest, children are asked to print off the colouring sheet from the event’s Facebook page, colour it and then post a picture of their coloured sheet by Dec. 11 to be entered into the contest.
