Brussels Tigers in first in Huron County Fastball League standings

After spending nearly all of the season in second place, the Brussels Tigers have climbed into the top spot in the Huron County Fastball League standings with a record of 18-2 and 36 points after winning their last eight games.
The Belmore Stingers, who have spent much of the season in first place, will not lay claim to a pole-to-pole season win, as they now sit in second place with a record of 16-3 and 32 points.
The Wingham Hitmen are in third place with a record of 14-6 and 28 points, followed by the Milverton Millwrights in fourth place with 22 points and a record of 11-4, the Mitchell Mets in fifth place with a record of 10-6-1 and 21 points and the sixth-place Sebringville Sting with 21 points and a record of 10-8-1.
The Fullarton A’s sit in seventh place with the convenient record of 7-11 and 14 points, followed by the eighth-place Monkton Muskrats with an identical record.
The Walton Brewers are in ninth place with a record of 6-11-1 and 13 points, followed by the Goderich Grizzlies in 10th place with a record of 6-13 and 12 points, the Wroxeter Rippers in 11th place with six points and a record of 3-18 and the 12th-place Brussels Bangers with a record of 2-17-1 and five points.
The Wroxeter Rippers have just one game left on their schedule, while the Brussels Bangers, Wingham Hitmen and Brussels Tigers each have two left to play. The Belmore Stingers, Sebringville Sting and Goderich Grizzlies each have three, while the Fullarton A’s, Monkton Muskrats and Walton Brewers each have four games left on their regular season schedules.
The Mitchell Mets sit with five regular season games left to play and the Milverton Millwrights have seven games left on their schedule.
On Sunday, Aug. 27, the Brussels Bangers played two games at home, losing both. First they fell to their fellow Brussels residents, the Tigers, by a score of 5-1 and then to the Goderich Grizzlies by a score of 6-4 in a game that took eight innings to decide to end an already-long day of baseball for the Bangers.
Also that day, the Wingham Hitmen beat the Sting in Rostock by a score of 8-1, the Milverton Millwrights beat the Rippers by a score of 11-5 in Wroxeter and the Mitchell Mets travelled to Fullarton and beat the A’s by a score of 8-6.
On Friday, Aug. 25, the Brussels Tigers were on the road and beat the Sebringville Sting by a score of 7-0, the Belmore Stingers beat the Brussels Bangers in Brussels by a score of 4-1, the Monkton Muskrats hosted the Walton Brewers and won by a score of 6-2, the Fullarton A’s beat the Rippers in Wroxeter by a score of 19-4 and the Wingham Hitmen were in Goderich to beat the Grizzlies by a score of 9-0.
On Aug. 23, the Brussels Tigers won both games of a doubleheader with the Fullarton A’s in Brussels by scores of 8-4 and 6-0. The Monkton Muskrats were scheduled to host the Goderich Grizzlies that night, but that game was postponed and will be made up at a later date.
On Aug. 22, the Brussels Tigers travelled south to take on the Walton Brewers and came back with a 9-4 win in their pockets. Also that night, the Sebringville Sting hosted the Mitchell Mets in a game originally scheduled to be played on June 25, but neither team could distinguish itself from the other and the game ended in a 7-7 tie.
On Aug. 21, the Belmore Stingers won both games of a doubleheader with the Rippers in Wroxeter by scores of 8-3 and 4-0.
The Milverton Millwrights were in Walton to play the Brewers and the Sebringville Sting were in Fullarton to play the A’s on Aug. 29, but scores for those games were unavailable at press time.
The next night, the Belmore Stingers were due to host the Wingham Hitmen and the Brussels Bangers were scheduled to host the Mitchell Mets, but scores for those games were unavailable at press time.
On Aug. 31, four games were scheduled to be played. Milverton was due to host the Belmore Stingers in a game originally scheduled to be played on Aug. 24, the Walton Brewers were in Fullarton to play the A’s in a game originally scheduled for Aug. 15, the Sebringville Sting hosted the Monkton Muskrats and the Milverton Millwrights were scheduled to play their second game of the night, this time against the Mitchell Mets, but scores for those games were unavailable at press time.
The league then takes a small break over the Labour Day weekend returning with two games scheduled for Sept. 5. That night, the Walton Brewers will host the Mitchell Mets and the Milverton Millwrights will play the A’s in Fullarton.
The next night, the Belmore Stingers will host the Goderich Grizzlies, the Monkton Muskrats will host the Wingham Hitmen, the Brussels Tigers will host the Mitchell Mets and the Wroxeter Rippers will be in Milverton to play the Millwrights.
On Sept. 7, the Milverton Millwrights will host the Walton Brewers, while, the next night, the Brussels Tigers will be in Monkton to play the Muskrats, the Goderich Grizzlies will be in Fullarton to play the A’s and the Milverton Millwrights will be in Sebringville to play the Sting in a game originally scheduled to be played on Aug. 18.
On Sept. 11, the Brussels Bangers will play the Mets in Mitchell, in a game originally scheduled to be played on Aug. 23. Sept. 11 is slated to be the last day for regular season games this year.
The Huron County Fastball League playoff tournament will take place on the weekend of Sept. 15-17 this year in Goderich.
