Brussels Tigers move up with Homecoming win over Walton

The Brussels Tigers were able to claim victory in one of the rarest games on the Huron County Fastball League schedule: the holiday Monday afternoon game, held in conjunction with the Brussels 150th Homecoming.

 

The Tigers beat their neighbours from the south, the Walton Brewers, by a score of 6-2 on Monday afternoon, finishing the game despite inclement weather threatening the afternoon.

 

With the win, the Tigers climbed into third place in the Huron County Fastball League standings with a record of 8-3. The Brewers dropped to fourth place with a record of 8-6, while the Belmore Stingers are in second place with a record of 8-1. The Wingham Hitmen remain in first place with a record of 9-2 and 18 points, losing their first game in weeks on July 27 against Belmore by a score of 10-9.

 

Milverton beat Wroxeter by a score of 15-7 on July 29, while Fullarton beat Goderich by a score of 15-0 in four innings. Walton beat Monkton on July 26 by a score of 13-11.

 

The Goderich Grizzlies were set to travel to Wingham to take on the Hitmen on Wednesday, the same day Monkton was to travel to Mitchell for a game. Neither score was available at press time.

 

On Aug. 4, Fullarton was due to travel to Milverton for a game rescheduled from June 30, but a score was unavailable at press time.

 

There are a trio of games scheduled for Aug. 5. Sebringville will host Milverton, while Belmore will travel to Monkton and Wroxeter will play the Grizzlies in Goderich.

 

On Sunday, Fullarton will play the Hitmen in Wingham at 1 p.m., while Sebringville will travel to Walton on Tuesday, Aug. 9 and Mitchell will play the Stingers in Belmore.

 

On Thursday, Goderich will play in Belmore, and Brussels will travel to Milverton.
