Brussels Tigers still undefeated in Fastball League action
BY SHAWN LOUGHLIN
Action in the Huron County Fastball League continued last week with the Brussels Tigers, Walton Brewers and Wingham Hitmen all in action.
The Brussels Tigers continued their winning ways, preserving their undefeated record with wins over the Belmore Stingers and the Goderich Grizzlies.
The Tigers triumphed over Belmore on July 29 by a score of 9-0, just one day after defeating the Grizzlies by a score of 9-2. This comes after wins over Walton and Monkton earlier in the season.
The Tigers are now 4-0 on the season. They were in action against the Fullarton A’s on Wednesday night, but a score was unavailable as of press time.
They are on the road to play against the Wroxeter Rippers on Sunday, Aug. 8 and continue their road trip with a game against the Wingham Hitmen on Aug. 11 in Wingham.
On July 27, the Walton Brewers found themselves on the wrong end of a 20-9 score. That was just their second loss of the season, with wins over Goderich and Mitchell earlier in the season, but with an 18-1 loss against the Brussels Tigers.
Walton played the Belmore Stingers on Wednesday night, but a score was unavailable at press time. They are also due to play the Fullarton A’s on Aug. 10 at home in Walton.
The Wingham Hitmen beat the Wroxeter Rippers on July 18 by a score of 5-1 and then beat the Walton Brewers by a score of 20-9 on July 27.
They travel to Fullarton to take on the A’s on Aug. 6 and then they’re home to welcome the Belmore Stingers for a contest on Aug. 8 before another home game against the Brussels Tigers on Aug. 11.
As of Tuesday morning, the Brussels Tigers had a secure hold on first place in the league with their 4-0 record and eight points.
The Wingham Hitmen were in third with a record of 3-0 and six points, followed by the Walton Brewers and their 2-2 record and four points.
Belmore, Monkton, Fullarton and Mitchell all have two points each, tied for fourth place, while Wroxeter and Goderich are both winless with records of 0-3 and no points, in a tie for eighth place.
