Brussels Tigers sweep fourth-straight fastball championship
The Brussels Tigers swept the Belmore Stingers to capture their fourth straight Huron County Fastball League championship over the weekend.
The Tigers posted an 8-1 win over the Stingers in game one of the best-of-three series, held in Brussels on Friday after the game was rained out earlier in the week.
Game two, held in Belmore on Sunday, saw the Stingers fight harder, but the Tigers still emerged victorious with a 5-2 win.
This marks two seasons in a row that the Tigers have bested the Stingers in the championship, capturing the 2019 trophy as well. The Tigers captured the 2018 trophy by beating the Wingham Hitmen and the 2017 trophy by besting the Fullarton A’s. This is also the fifth championship the team has captured in six seasons, having downed the Fullarton A’s in 2015.
To earn their way to the championship, the first-seeded Tigers swept all competitors in their best-of-three series, starting with ninth-seeded Wroxeter in the quarter-finals, followed by the Fullarton A’s in the semi-finals.
The third-seeded Stingers also swept all competition to the finals, starting by blanking the Mitchell Junior Mets in the quarter-finals, followed by the Walton Brewers in the semi-finals.
