George Zwep's team claims D.A. Rann Memorial Trophy
The Brussels Curling Club finished the year of curling on March 13. Winners were: first-place team for the second draw was Steve Steiss, Janelle Cardiff, Paul Fear and Laura Fischer; second, Steve Dolmage, Katherine Thomet, Andrew Fear and Leisa Albers; third, Don Chesher, MaryAnn Thompson, Gary Pipe and Laken Smith; fourth, Jack Pipe, Reg Vinnicombe, Nicole Alexander and Christine Coverdale; fifth, Brent Alexander, George Zwep, Chris Jutzi and Danielle Jutzi; sixth, Mike Alexander, Diana Dolmage, Barbara Cadotte and Alex Jebson; seventh, Matthew Cardiff, Martin Thomet, Darcy Fear and Hannah Nauwelaerts; eighth, Douwa Top, Tyler Jutzi, Brenden Howson and Trisha Fischer; ninth, Doug Bremner, Steve Bowers, Dona Knight and Natalie Fear and 10th, Steve Knight, Jo-Ann McDonald, Deb Coultes and Jill Wagerman.
The last night was celebrated with a lovely social time with lots of delicious snacks enjoyed by all. The normal business for the year was conducted. The president for the 2023/2024 season is Matthew Cardiff with Brent Alexander as first vice-president and Andrew Fear as second vice-president. Tyler Jutzi thanked everyone for coming out for the 2022/2023 season and hopes everyone will return next year.
The final gathering for the Brussels Curling Club for prize presentations was held on Monday, March 20. There were nearly 50 enjoying the delicious fare of potluck dishes. Following the meal, the presentations were made to the top three teams from the two draws by incoming President Matthew Cardiff.
The first draw winners were George Zwep, Steve Bowers, Andrew Fear and Hannah Nauwelaerts; second, Steve Knight, Diana Dolmage, Paul Fear, Brendan Howson and third, Don Chesher, Jack Pipe, Dona Knight and Laken Smith. The winners of the second draw are recorded above.
The D.A. Rann Memorial Trophy was presented to the team with the top points from a draw. Winning the D.A. Rann Trophy for the first time after 45 years of curling was George Zwep and his team: Steve Bowers, Andrew Fear and Hannah Nauwelaerts, scoring 62 points over the six games. Congratulations to all the winners.
The evening then continued with a couple of games conducted by Gary Pipe. There was lots of fun and laughter. It was a great evening and the club looks forward to seeing everyone back to curl next year. Have a great summer!
