Hockey, broomball playoffs now underway - Feb. 28, 2019

As the hockey season nears its end, several local teams find themselves with something to play for in this season’s playoffs.
BLYTH BRUSSELS
For the Blyth Brussels Crusaders, the Novice Rep Squad posted a 2-1 series win over the BCH Ice Dogs and, next weekend, will be facing off against the West Grey Warriors on March 2 at 9 a.m. in Blyth and then take on the Arthur Vipers at 6:30 p.m. on March 6 at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre.
The Atom Local League Black squad is set to face off against the Huron-Bruce Blizzard on home ice in Brussels on March 2 at 10 a.m., then take on the Zurich Thunder on the road on March 8.
Atom Local League Burgundy recently played against the BCH Ice Dogs 2 in Hensall, but a score was unavailable at press time. The squad will face off against the Mitchell Meteors in Brussels on March 2 at 11 a.m., the BCH Ice Dogs 1 squad in Hensall on March 4 and the Mitchell Meteors on March 9.
The Atom Rep squad has had a series of wins in its postseason, besting the Mount Forest Rams and taking two games from the Drayton Defenders since the start of the month. The squad next faces off against the Central Perth Predators with games in Blyth on March 1 at 7 p.m. and Milverton on March 4.
The PeeWee Local League team faced off against the Mitchel Meteors earlier this week, but a score was unavailable as of press time. Next, the squad takes on Goderich and Mitchell on the road on March 3 and March 5, respectively, before returning to Blyth for a game against the Minto Mad Dogs on March 6 at 6 p.m.
The PeeWee Rep squad has had a tough postseason, suffering several straight losses. The squad had two games against the Huron-Bruce Blizzard earlier this week, but scores weren’t available at press time. Next, the squad has games against the Kincardine Kinucks on March 2 at 3:30 p.m. in Brussels and the Blizzard on March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Blyth.
The Bantam Local League team has won four of five postseason games and next take on the Central Perth Predators. The squad visits the Predators on March 4 and welcomes them to Brussels on March 6 at 7:30 p.m. The Crusaders then take on the Wingham Ironmen on March 7 at 8:30 p.m.
The Bantam Rep squad has had a difficult postseason, losing several in a row. The squad next takes on the Minto Mad Dogs in Blyth on March 3 at 4:30 p.m.
The Midget Local League team played several games this week, but scores were unavailable at press time. The team takes to the ice against the Central Perth Predators on Feb. 28, then has back-to-back game days against the Huron-Bruce Blizzard, welcoming them to Brussels on March 2 at 5 p.m. and then travelling to Ripley on March 3.
The Midget AE squad next takes to the ice against the Mitchell Meteors in Blyth on March 3. The team has suffered in the postseason, earning one win and five losses.
The Midget Rep team faced off against the Kincardine Kinucks earlier this week, but a score was unavailable at press time. Next, the team travels to Clinton to take on the BCH Ice Dogs on March 2.

HURON HEAT
In the second round of the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League (LLFHL), the Novice B Huron Heat are tied 1-1 against the South Huron Sabres. The squad next takes on the Sabres on March 2 at the Stephen Township Arena.
The Atom A squad, in the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) playdowns, recently posted a 1-1 tie against the Saugeen Maitland Lightning. The squad will next take on the Stratford Aces in Stratford on March 2, before hosting the Lightning at the Central Huron Community Complex on March 3 at 11:30 a.m.
The Atom C squad, in OWHA playdowns, recently fell to Mitchell on the road on Feb. 23 by a score of 3-0. The squad welcomed Mitchell on Feb. 26, but a score was unavailable at press time. The team next faces off against the Stratford Aces in Seaforth on March 2 at 2 p.m. The same squad, in the Western Ontario Girl’s Hockey League (WOGHL) playoff round-robin, has a 2-1 record, besting the Waterloo Ravens and Mitchell Meteors 1-0 and 2-0, respectively, and losing to the West Oxford Inferno C. The team next welcomes the Waterloo Ravens C club to the Seaforth and District Community Centre on Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m.
The Huron Heat Atom HL team, in the WOGHL playoff round-robin, is undefeated in the postseason, posting a 3-1 win over the Ilderton Jets and tying and beating the West Oxford Inferno 2-2 and 2-1. The team played the Lucan Irish in Zurich earlier this week, but a score was unavailable at press time.
The team next takes to the ice March 9 in Lucan against the Irish.
The PeeWee BB squad has posted a scoreless tie against the Stratford Aces in its LLFHL playoffs. Next the team takes on the South Huron Sabres in Brussels on March 1 at 7:30 p.m.
The PeeWee C squad has had an even postseason, with three wins, two losses and a tie in its OWHA playdowns. The squad next takes to the ice on March 5 against the South Huron Sabres in Zurich in the WOGHL playoff round-robin.
The Bantam BB squad swept the LLFHL first round games, posting wins over Stratford and Lambton, and, in round two, were bested by the Stratford Aces in their first meeting. The team took on the Aces again earlier this week and, if needed, will face them on March 3 at the Central Huron Community Complex to finish the best-of-three series.
The Bantam C squad has a nearly perfect postseason record, posting wins over the Lucknow/Wingham 86ers, the Mitchell Meteors, St. Marys Rock and the St. Thomas Panthers. The squad did fall to the Kent County Fillies C squad, however. The team next takes to the ice on March 1 against the South Huron Sabres at 8:30 p.m. in Brussels.
The Midget BB squad had its first LLFHL second round game in Blyth earlier this week against the Wallaceburg Lakers, but a score wasn’t available at press time. The team next takes on Wallaceburg on the road on March 1 and, if necessary, on March 2 in Clinton at 8 p.m.
The Midget C squad has had a rough postseason, earning two wins and four losses. The team next sees action against the Kent County Fillies in Bothwell for the WOGHL playoff round-robin on Feb. 28. In the OWHA playdowns, the squad will next face the Lucknow/Wingham 86ers at the North Huron Wescast Community Centre on March 4.
The Senior Huron Heat next faces off against St. Marys Rock in Stephen Township on Feb. 28 at 9 p.m.
