Monthly Brussels Farmers' Market to return next year
BY DENNY SCOTT
The Brussels Farmers’ Market, which has been held on the last Friday of the month since May, will be returning next year with the same schedule according to organizer Zoellyn Onn.
In an interview with The Citizen, Onn said the market had received a lot of positive feedback and would be continuing next year with minimal changes.
“The feedback from the community was totally positive,” she said. “Everyone was happy it was here.”
She said the once-a-month event was more sustainable than a weekly or bi-weekly schedule, since people made an effort to get out to the market, given its relatively limited availability.
The only change, she said, is that there will be a $5 vendor fee added to cover entertainment as well as possible electricity costs.
“It will help pay the entertainers or face painters or other attractions that will draw more people to the market,” she said.
The small fee hasn’t scared away any vendors, she said, as every vendor from 2021 plans to be part of the market next year.
Each market day was well attended, save the last one, Onn said, which was likely due to the fact that it was in September and the weather was less than ideal.
Next year’s markets will run on May 27, June 24, July 29, Aug. 26 and Sept. 30 and will keep the same schedule of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Onn said, as vendors appreciated that schedule and it seemed to sit well with the community. There will be one exception to that schedule, however, as the July 29 market, which coincides with the Brussels Homecoming celebration, will run until 4 p.m.
