Allan Nicholson
At Listowel Memorial Hospital on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025, Allan Nicholson of Wingham passed away peacefully at the age of 89.
Born on Oct. 21, 1936 on the family farm at Lot 44 and 45 Concession 1 in Turnberry Township to Mary and Bill Nicholson, who predeceased him, Al was the last surviving member of his family.
Al married the former Barbara Merrick at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Wingham on Sept. 7, 1957 by Rev. Dr. Alexander Nimmo.
Al was the loving dad of Mary Anne (Tim) and Steve (Angela), both of Bluevale. Al had five grandchildren: Jake (Brittany), Nick, Krista (Romeo), Chad (Kellsey) and Steven, as well as two step-granddaughters: Taylor (husband Greg and their children Brynlee, Owen and Ivy) and Paige (Connor). There are eight great-grandchildren: Reed, Seth, Farrah, Lannie, Diego, Poppy, Brynlee and Harlee.
Family meant everything to Al.
Surviving in-laws are Beth Whitby (George deceased), Don Merrick (Pat deceased) and Bev Stacey (Rick).
Al was predeceased by parents-in-law Helen and Irvin Merrick, siblings Mae (Percy), Daisy, Jack (Vera) and Joe Nicholson (WWII), sisters-in-law Vera Nicholson and Pat Merrick, brothers-in-law Grant Merrick, Percy King and George Whitby, nieces Marlene Lobsinger and Pat MacAulay and nephews Ross and Keith Nicholson, Will Hooper, Jim King and Clarence Bishop.
Al was in the transportation business most of his adult life, driving for Wingham and District Community Living in later years, a position he held with great passion. Al had an infectious smile that was his trademark through life.
Visitation was held at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Wednesday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Reception followed at the Wingham Columbus Centre.
