Arthur “Art” Bolton
Arthur “Art” Bolton of Winthrop passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at Huronview Home for the Aged, Clinton on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025 at the age of 94.
The beloved husband of the late Marie (Allan) Bolton (2015) for 59 years, Art was the cherished father of Carl and Valerie Bolton and Jan and the late Alan (2019) Wyman.
He was the adored poppa of Matthew (Tammy), Grant (Lindsay), David (Erin); Jessica (Kyle), and Sam (Michelle), and great-poppa of Reid, Danielle and Ryker. He will be fondly remembered by his nephews and cousins.
Art was predeceased by his brother Malcolm “Mac” (Ann) Bolton, brother in-law John (Jean) Allan, parents Russell and Edna (Johnston) and parents-in-law Ross and Beatrice (Pearen) Allan.
After graduating from Ontario Agricultural College in 1955, Art worked as the assistant ag. rep in Huron County before returning full-time to the McKillop family farm. Following in his father’s footsteps, he became a Select Seed Grower, growing, processing and selling Certified Seed to local farmers and those as far away as P.E.I. and Manitoba under the trade name R.T. Bolton and Son.
Art was very active in serving his community and country on many associations (often as Chair) such as the Seaforth Agricultural Society, Huron County 4-H, Ontario Seed Growers, Ontario Pulse Committee and the Canadian Seed Growers, just to name a few.
For many years, he served as the Federal Returning Officer for the riding of Huron-Bruce. He received the Canadian Seed Growers’ highest award, the Robertson Associate Award, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and was inducted into the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame for his contributions.
He always loved the many family gatherings, class reunions and meeting people across the country, when possible. He enjoyed going flying, sailing or building something in the shop.
He lived a full life and will truly be missed.
Visitation was held at Haskett Funeral Home, Seaforth, on Sunday, Sept. 28 and again on Monday, Sept. 29, where Art’s funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Interment then took place at Maitlandbank Cemetery.
Donations in Art’s memory to Cavan United Church, Seaforth Community Hospital Foundation, Huron 4-H Association, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
