Showers are not just to help outfit the couple’s new home, but also provide an opportunity for friends and family of the happy couple to get to know each other a bit before the big day. Generally a close friend, maid of honour, relative or bridesmaid will host the shower. It's not considered proper for this to be done by the groom’s mother or immediate family, although they may help. Having more than one host will offset expenses and limit the number of showers. If there is more than one, it is thoughtful to invite different people to each.
A month or two before a wedding is a good time to host a shower.
