Belmore Stingers return to top spot in Huron County Fastball League standings

After spending much of the first half of the season atop the Huron County Fastball League standings, the Belmore Stingers are back on top with a record of 8-3 and 16 points.
The Sebringville Sting and Brussels Bangers are then tied for second with records of 7-3 and 7-4, each with 14 points, followed by the Elmira Expos (6-4), Mitchell Mets (6-2), Walton Brewers (6-6) and Monkton Muskrats all tied for fourth with 12 points each.
The Brussels Tigers sit alone in eighth place with a record of 4-5 and eight points, followed by the Milverton Millwrights (3-7) and Fullarton A’s (3-6) tied for ninth with six points each and the Wroxeter/Wingham Rippers (2-7) and Goderich Grizzlies (2-8) tied for 11th place with four points each.
Last Sunday, the Belmore Stingers hosted the Milverton Millwrights and beat the visitors by a score of 14-3 and the Brussels Bangers beat the Goderich Grizzlies by a score of 5-3 in a league game that also served as part of the annual Brussels Tiger Tournament.
On Saturday, it was the same deal, with the Brussels Tigers beating the Goderich Grizzlies by a score of 4-1 in a Tigers Tournament game that doubled as a regular season league game and the Monkton Muskrats beating the Goderich Grizzlies by a score of 8-1 on Friday night in another tournament game that doubled as a league game, this one, though, was played in Ethel.
On July 17, the Belmore Stingers hosted the Brussels Bangers, but it was Belmore that would triumph by a score of 9-2.
One night earlier, the Milverton Millwrights beat the Expos in Elmira by a score of 8-1 and the Brussels Tigers hosted the Fullarton A’s, but lost by a score of 7-3. The Walton Brewers were scheduled to be in Mitchell to play the Mets that night, but that game was postponed with a new date that has yet to be set.
On July 15, the Sebringville Sting travelled to Walton to play the Brewers and won on the road by a score of 13-5.
Looking ahead, tonight, Friday, July 25, the Brussels Bangers will host the Monkton Muskrats and the Walton Brewers will be in Goderich to play the Grizzlies. Then, on Sunday, the Belmore Stingers will be in Goderich to play the Grizzlies, the Wroxeter/Wingham Rippers will host the Milverton Millwrights and the Mitchell Mets will be in Fullarton for a game with the A’s.
On Wednesday, July 30, the Brussels Bangers will be in Wingham to play the Rippers in a game originally scheduled to be played on June 18.
On Thursday, July 31, the Fullarton A’s will play the Walton Brewers in Seaforth as part of opening night of the Seaforth 150th Homecoming, while the Milverton Millwrights will host the Wroxeter/Wingham Rippers and the Monkton Muskrats will be in Belmore for a game with the Stingers.
There is then a bit of a break for the Civic Holiday weekend, with play resuming on Wednesday, Aug. 6.
This week, on July 22, the Elmira Expos were scheduled to host the Mitchell Mets and the Brussels Bangers were in Sebringville to play the Sting, followed by July 23 games between the Goderich Grizzlies and Mitchell Mets in Mitchell and the Brussels Tigers in Wingham to play the Rippers and July 24 contests between the Wroxeter/Wingham Rippers and the Stingers in Belmore and the Brussels Tigers in Elmira to play the Expos, but scores for those games were unavailable at press time.
