Blyth's Murray Bromley dominates on mound as Avengers win silver
The U13 Elma Avengers delivered a strong showing at the OASA Provincial Championships over the weekend, highlighted by dominant pitching, disciplined offense, and fantastic defense across all five games.
Elma opened the weekend with a commanding 12-2 win over Douro, powered by a standout performance from Murray Bromley, who struck out 19 in a complete‑game effort. An eight‑run third inning broke the game open, with contributions from Brysen Brenneman, Gage Wicke and Rowan Buchanan.
On Saturday, the Avengers defeated Napanee 8-3 behind extra‑base hits from Lukas Trethewey-Otten, Buchanan and Bromley, who also added nine strikeouts in another seven‑inning outing, while Buchanan drove in three. Elma’s patience at the plate produced nine walks and a key double play that stalled Napanee’s late-inning push.
In their second Saturday matchup, Elma fell 14-9 to the Tara Major Twins despite a 10‑hit effort and a six‑run sixth inning. Bromley, Buchanan, Brenneman and Wicke all posted multi‑hit games, while Max Buchanan’s three walks (six on the weekend) highlighted Elma’s continued patience at the plate.
Elma rebounded Sunday morning with a 5-3 win over Napanee, led again by Bromley, with an 11‑strikeout complete game. Cooper Verkley’s clutch triple in the sixth restored the lead, and Brenneman added an insurance RBI single. The Avengers collected 11 hits and were flawless defensively with Jarrett Fleet’s game-ending diving catch.
In their final game, Elma battled, but dropped a 7-3 decision to Tara. Wicke drove in all three runs and reached base three times, while Bromley, Max Buchanan and Brenneman all doubled. Bromley struck out 10 in a gritty outing.
Across the weekend, the Avengers showcased elite pitching, strong situational hitting and exceptional defensive consistency, reinforcing their status as one of Ontario’s most disciplined and competitive squads.
