David Allan Inglis

Peacefully at Wingham and District Hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, David Allan Inglis of Wingham, passed away at the age of 81.

 

David had been a resident of Morris-Turnberry since 1980, residing on his farmland on the edge of Wingham. He was the son of the late John Inglis and Florence Inglis (Ayers).

 

He will be forever remembered and loved by his devoted wife Doris (Carswell), his brothers and their wives, Tom and Ann (Wingham), Steve and Beverly (High Level, Alberta), and his sister Bonnie (Nanaimo. British Columbia) and his in-laws, Dianne and the late Jack Mann (Fordwich), John and Margaret Carswell (Teeswater), Karen and Lynn Ferguson (Goderich) and William and Marilyn Carswell (St. Clements).

 

Dave’s many nieces and nephews, as well as his great-nieces and great-nephews, meant the world to him, and he loved sharing his wisdom with them.

 

Dave was born in Duart, Kent County and moved to Fordwich at 10 years old. That is where he met and married Doris, his high school sweetheart, in 1966.

 

Dave was a dynamic and enthusiastic businessman who charged into the unknown without fear. At 21, he bought his first drainage machine and installed clay drainage systems under the name Inglis Contracting. In 1974, with his partner Jerry Blake, he purchased Bruce Tile, where they made clay tile for two years before switching to plastic in 1976. 

 

The friends he made in the drainage business were incredibly special to him, enduring and never forgotten. Always keen for the next adventure, he started Bi-Ax International Inc. in 1988 at the Bruce Energy Centre, where they manufactured plastic packaging films and breathable film. Bi-Ax expanded to Wingham in 1999, where they specialized in compostable film. 

 

Dave always considered the greatest strength of both companies was the loyalty of the dedicated employees.

 

Dave loved travelling the world with Doris. At 50, he became a passionate motorcycle rider and travelled all over North and South America, enjoying adventures and making new friends. D and D fell in love with Hawaii and purchased a little piece of paradise on the Big Island in 2012.

 

Throughout his life, Dave’s greatest treasures were his family and friends.

 

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at the Wingham Columbus Centre on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 1-4 p.m. with words of remembrance at 2 p.m.

 

Interment will take place at Wingham Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated, and may be made through McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham.
