Henk van den Broek

Henk van den Broek of Listowel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Thursday, July 2, 2026, in his 91st year. 

 

The husband of the late Ria (Verschuren) van den Broek, Henk was the father of Diana and Stephen Dolmage of Brussels, Robert and Barbara van den Broek of Walton, and Rita van den Broek.

 

He was the opa of Meagan, Scott, Dana, Ryker, Virginia, Mackenzie, Shelby, Selena, and Jordin and the brother of Mary, Rieka, Wilma, Peita, Clara, Marty, Harold, Rick, and Chuck.

 

He will also be sadly missed by his many extended van den Broek and Verschuren families.

 

Henk was predeceased by his siblings John, Wilhelmina, Catharina, Harry, Joe, Nolda, Fran, and Frank.

 

Henk was a young child when he immigrated to Canada with his family. He would return to Holland on various vacations, which is when and where he met Ria and quickly realized she was the love of his life. They married and, at first, lived in Oakville and soon realized Huron County was the place for them. There he worked as a carpenter and farmer. He enjoyed spending time with family and a good game of cards. He will be remembered for his strong faith and the lessons he taught his family.

 

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on July 5. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Listowel on Monday, July 6. Interment in Brussels Cemetery.

 

Memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church or Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
