Henry VanBarneveld

Henry VanBarneveld of Brussels, formerly of Hanover and Zurich, passed away at Stratford General Hospital on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, in his 87th year. 

 

The husband of Mary (Winkel) TenPas, and the late Diane (Bebingh) VanBarneveld, Henry was the father of Wilma and Mark Rupke of Grafton, and Gordon and Sonja VanBarneveld of Sarnia.  He will also be sadly missed by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 

He was the brother of Bill and Clara VanBarneveld, of Sarnia, and brother-in-law of Jan VanBarneveld of Sarnia, and Winston deRoos of Wyoming.

 

Henry will be sorely missed and forever remembered by Mary’s children: Brian and Melinda TenPas of Brussels, Brenda and Rob McIntosh of Walton, Carol and Sean Colquhoun of Hanover, and Judy and Nigel Taylor of Guelph, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

 

He was predeceased by his sister Georgina deRoos and brother John VanBarneveld.  

 

Henry was born in Westbrook, the Netherlands, in 1940. His family immigrated to Canada in the 1950s and settled in Lambton County, where he met his first wife, Diane. Together they raised their two children, Wilma and Gordon, while Henry worked as a Purchasing Manager.

 

After Diane’s passing in 2000, Henry met and married Mary TenPas. They shared 24 wonderful years together, surrounded by family.

 

Henry was a hard worker who rarely sat still. He loved helping family, friends and his church with renovations and building projects. When he wasn’t helping others, he could often be found in “The Shack,” working with wood - turning bowls and candlesticks on his lathe, making cutting boards or building furniture.

 

Henry’s hands were rarely idle and through them he shared his time, talents and love with so many. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

 

Visitation will be held at Hanover Missionary Church on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m.
Interment in Wyoming Public Cemetery.

 

Memorial donations to the Hanover Missionary Church for the Warming Centre would be appreciated, and may be made through Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel.
