James Richard “Jim” Howson
James Richard “Jim” Howson passed away peacefully in his sleep on Aug. 29, 2026, at the age of 86.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Esther Carol Howson. He is survived by his children Steve (Cathy) Howson, Ron Howson, Sandra (Tony) DeCorte, Deb Beckett, and David MacLeod (Corrie).
His grandchildren are Meaghan (Nick) Cicchini, Holly Howson (Justin Burke), Brenden Howson (Anika Kumhyr), Jenna (Alex) Durrer, Emily DeCorte (Mark Sharman), Courtney (Justin), Chelsea, Tyler, Summer and Taya. His great-grandchildren are Reid, Grace, Kaiden, Alexah, Oliveah, Harper and Lukas.
Jim is also survived by his siblings Bill, Doug (Barb), Ann (Bob) Crawford, Bruce (Candice), Margaret (Brian) Craig and Mary Arthur along with their families. He was predeceased by his parents, William Frederick “Fred” Howson and Mary M. Howson (née Orvis), and his sister-in-law Susan Howson.
Jim joined his family’s business, Howson and Howson Ltd. in Blyth, in 1960. Also during that time he served for 50 years as a volunteer firefighter, retiring from the Fire Department of North Huron in 2013. Jim was also a long-time member of the Blyth Masonic Lodge and the Bluewater Shrine Club.
Friends will be received at Falconer Funeral Homes - Bluewater Chapel in Goderich on Friday, Sept. 11 from 7- 9 p.m., where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. with Deacon Brian McDonald officiating.
