Jean Marilyn (Martin) Young

At Listowel Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, Jean Marilyn (Martin) Young of Listowel, formerly of Wingham, passed away, surrounded by her family, at the age of 83.

 

The devoted wife of Jim Young, Jean was the loving mother of Marty and Joanne, Jamie and Cheryl, Karen (d. 2022), Liane and Paul. She was the cherished grandma of Kayla, Erica, Bryan and Jodi, Jordan and Olivia, Tyler and Kaitlin, Brody and Brittany, Rebecca and Cody and the great-grandma of Aubree, Logan, Callum, Ryatt, Trinity, Abigayle, Whitney and Winston.

 

Jean was the sister of Marlene and Bob Struthers, Wayne and the late Carmen Martin, Linda and Don Wall, John Martin and Rosemary Foran, Dan and Jen Martin and the sister-in-law of William (d. 2025), Ken, Don and Jane (d. 2024) and Russell Young.
Jean played a foundational role in building Town and Country Support Services. She worked tirelessly for 34 years to improve the lives of citizens throughout Huron and Perth Counties.

 

Jean loved to travel. She enjoyed many adventures with Jim by her side. She explored the United States, Mexico, Hawaii, Europe and the British Isles, often touring with friends, although her favourite vacations were with her grandchildren, roaming the parks of Disney World.

 

Jean built her life around her family, friends and community.

 

A celebration of Jean’s life, will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church’s Main Hall, Listowel, on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 1:30-4 p.m. with words of remembrance at 2 p.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Listowel Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care Unit) would be appreciated.
