Joyce Audrey Steuernol

Joyce Audrey Steuernol of Wingham passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the age of 94.

 

Joyce was the proud and devoted mother of her two sons, Richard “Rick” Steuernol and Paul Steuernol, both of whom predeceased her. She loved her boys deeply and missed them dearly every day since their passing.

 

She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, her extended family and many friends. Joyce was also predeceased by her siblings Elmo, William, Raymond, Florence, and Dorothy, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

 

Born in Wingham on Jan. 29, 1932, Joyce was the daughter of the late Lorne and Bessie (Pinnell) Sanderson. Arriving three months premature, Joyce proved from the very beginning to be strong-willed and determined, qualities that stayed with her throughout her life. She had a deep love for music, especially enjoying jamborees and playing the drum. 

 

She was a talented seamstress who took great pride in her years working at the Gurney Glove Factory. Joyce also had a passion for history and remained incredibly sharp and knowledgeable right up until her passing. Though she could be stubborn and feisty, those who knew Joyce best also knew her heart was full of kindness, love, and loyalty.

 

Visitation was held at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Thursday, May 14. There will be no formal funeral service. 

 

Joyce and her beloved sons will be laid to rest together at Langside Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
