Local Torch Run raises over $7,200 for Special Olympics
The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) was held in Huron County on Wednesday, June 4.
Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Special Olympics Ontario partnered, alongside family members, friends, and community supporters from all over Huron County to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics.
The Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. This year, Huron OPP Torch Run co-ordinator, Sgt. Russell Nesbitt, who has been involved with this great partnership for 28 years, reported a fundraising total of over $7,200.
The Huron County Torch Run started at the Maitland River Community Church located on Josephine Street. The run headed through Wingham, ending at the south end of town. Participants were then transported to Blyth, Clinton and Goderich where they brought their excitement and joy to each of those communities. After completing the final leg in Goderich, participants and supporters met at McGee Motors for a celebratory barbecue.
A barbecue fundraiser was also held at Corrie’s Foodland in Clinton on Friday, June 27, which saw a great turnout and generous donations from the Corrie family and members of the public.
Any person or business that is looking to donate to this wonderful cause may donate by cash or cheque made payable to “Ontario Special Olympics”.
