McGavin, Hern claim top prizes at 97th Huron County Plowing Match

Clayton Hern and Brian McGavin earned top honours at last week’s Huron County Plowing Match for their prowess in the Junior and Senior divisions, respectively, with many others turning heads as well over the course of the two days near Seaforth.
McGavin was named Huron County Champion Senior Plower, followed by Lucas Townsend, the Reserve Champion Plower. Hern was named the Huron County Champion Junior Plower, while Dugald McIntosh was named Reserve Champion Junior Plower.
Also in the Junior Division, Keith DeKroon won the Val-Lea Award as the youngest participant at the match, while Jessalyn Hendriks won both the Warden’s Award/McGavin’s Award and the Huron County Plowmen’s Scholarship Award.
In the Senior Division, Ken Milligan was named the Antique Plowing Champion, while Tom Evans won the Don Dodds Visitors’ Award and John DeKroon won the Best Going Plow Team Award.

On Junior Day, Dugald McIntosh was named the Junior Day Champion and Clayton Hern was the Junior Day Reserve Champion. Hern also won the Ross Gordon Memorial Award for the 4-H top crown and McIntosh won the William Leeming Memorial Award for the 4-H top finish.
