Hensall hosts outdoor antique show, June 17

Hensall will play host to the fifth annual Ontario West Coast Antique Show, Fathers Day, Sunday, June 17.

Back in 2014 Peter Bisback, an antique collector for over 45 years, decided that it was time for a small, manageable outdoor antique show right here in Huron County and began over the winter courting dealers who have offered  Canadian antiques  at prestigious shows  throughout the province and even in the United States. Everyone who was invited accepted readily and said that the West Coast of Ontario was a destination many of the dealers had not experienced. The name of the show is called the Ontario West Coast Antique Show to lessen any confusion about some other province near an ocean.

Now, in the show’s fifth year, the show, is held at the Bisbacks’ home on Highway 4 south of Hensall. More than 20 dealers, pickers and collectors have been invited. It’s a one-day, outdoor show and sale beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m. to allow the dealers time to pack up and be home before the sun sets.

The Ontario West Coast Antique Show will be a vetted show, which means no reproductions can be offered for sale, and dealers have been asked not to bring anything that is less than 50 years old. The show will predominately feature furniture, folk art and “smalls” with an emphasis on Canadian sourced antiques or advertising items relating to businesses operating in Canada years ago.

The Hensall Horticultural Society will be cooking on the BBQ and some Exeter-area musicians will be playing music in the afternoon.

Admission is free but a donation to the Exeter Scouts is appreciated. Over the first four years the show has raised more than $5,000 for this good cause.

The show is located at 72040 London Rd., halfway between Hensall and Exeter on the east side of Highway 4. It will go on rain or shine from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
