Seaforth Centenaires win Paxton Trophy after game six victory over Ripley Wolves
BY SHAWN LOUGHLIN
While the Ripley Wolves made it interesting, pushing the series to a sixth game, the Seaforth Centenaires are the 2025/2026 Paxton Trophy champions, winning their best-of-seven series four games to two, hoisting the trophy after a 5-3 victory on Sunday night at home in Seaforth.
On Sunday in the sixth game of the series in Seaforth, it looked as though the Wolves were going to force a game seven, scoring the first two goals. First, Dan Nicoloff found the back of the net on the power play at 10:36 of the first, assisted by J.D. Falconer and Pat Looby, followed by an unassisted goal by Garrettt Meurs at 10:20 of the second.
Kyle Stanbury then put the Centenaires on the board with a goal at 4:49 of the second, assisted by Jarrett Bogdon and Sean Chisholm, followed by a tying goal scored by Ray Huether on the power play at 18:49 of the third, assisted by Sheldon Pryce and Reuben Smith.
The teams traded goals again when Ethan Skinner of the Wolves scored an unassisted goal at 11:03, followed by a power play goal at 5:57 by Seaforth’s Reuben Smith, assisted by Camden Daigle.
Then it was two unassisted Centenaires’ goals that tipped the scales Seaforth’s way and didn’t allow them to tip back. Camden Daigle scored with 2:20 left on the clock, followed by a Sean Chisholm marker with just 34 seconds left in the game, providing insurance for the home team.
This came after the Wolves used home ice advantage to its fullest in an overtime win on Saturday to force game six, besting Seaforth by a score of 3-2 in Ripley.
Ray Huether of the Centenaires opened the scoring at 17:21 of the first period with a power play goal assisted by Jared Nash and Camden Daigle. Matthew Murray then tied the game for the Wolves with a goal at 9:10 assisted by Logan Swanton and Kaden Hoggarth.
The teams then traded goals again in the second, with Camden Daigle scoring at 16:56 for the Centenaires, assisted by Parker Gibbings and Sean Chisholm, matched by the Wolves with a Garrett Meurs goal at 15:46, assisted by Jordan Moulton.
Then, at 14:21 in the overtime period, J.D. Falconer scored the game-winning goal for the Wolves, assisted by Carter Servais.
That ends another successful season for the Centenaires, which saw the team go 16-6-0 in the regular season before their Paxton Trophy run.
