Three Blyth teams win gold at annual Blyth Broomball Tournament last weekend

Over the weekend, the Blyth and District Community Centre was abuzz with activity - not to the tune of sharp skate blades digging into ice, but of the padding of shoes on the ice, as it was time for the annual Blyth Broomball Tournament, with a number of host teams winning their divisions.
The U14 Girls beat Mildmay by a score of 1-0 in the finals on Sunday to win their division, while the U16 Girls Blyth Bullets beat Palmerston by a score of 2-0 in the finals of their division and the U14 Boys Blyth Bullets won their championship game over Palmerston by a score of 3-1.
Action began on Friday, Nov. 7 with the U9 Blyth Bullets playing to a scoreless draw with the Seaforth Blasters, followed by the U9 Blyth Silver team beating Palmerston by a score of 3-1. The U12 Blyth Bullets beat the Mildmay Falcons 4-0 to open their tournament, followed by a 2-0 loss for the U12 Blyth Silver team at the hands of the Mildmay Moose, a 1-0 loss for the U14 Boys Blyth Bullets to Palmerston, a 4-1 win for the U16 Girls Blyth Bullets over the Seaforth Tornadoes and a 1-0 win for Mildmay over the U16 Boys Bullets.
Forty games were on the schedule for the next day, bringing together teams from all over southwestern Ontario.
Bright and early, the U14 Girls Bullets beat Palmerston by a score of 1-0, the U12 Blyth Bullets fell to Keady 1 by a score of 2-0 and the Blyth U12 Bullets beat the Blyth U12 Silver team by a score of 4-0.
The U12 Bullets then beat Palmerston by a score of 5-0 before losing to the Mildmay Moose by a score of 1-0. The U16 Girls Bullets then beat Kilsyth by a score of 1-0, the U20 Girls Blyth Typhoon lost to the Kilsyth Young Guns by a score of 1-0 and the U14 Girls Bullets beat Mildmay by a score of 1-0.
As play continued that day the U14 Boys Bullets beat the Seaforth Hurricanes by a score of 3-0, the U16 Girls Bullets beat Mildmay by a score of 2-0, the U20 Girls Blyth Typhoon lost to the Palmerston Terminators by a score of 1-0 and the U16 Boys Bullets lost to Kilsyth by a score of 1-0.
On Sunday, the final day of the tournament, the U9 Blyth Silver team played the Mildmay Junior Hawks, but lost by a score of 1-0. The U14 Boys Bullets beat Mildmay by a score of 1-0, followed by a 5-0 win for the U9 Blyth Bullets over the Mildmay Farmers.
From there, the U14 Boys Bullets, the U16 Girls Bullets and U14 Girls Bullets all went on to win their divisions.
