Toronto Junior Batmen claim A Championship in 53rd Brussels Tigers Tournament

The Toronto Junior Batmen are the winners of the Brussels Tigers Tournament, defeating the Tavistock Merchants in the A final on Sunday evening.
Down the standings, the Tavistock Yard Goats won the B championship on Sunday afternoon after defeating the Monkton Muskrats, while the host Brussels Tigers beat the Kitchener Selects to win the C championship and their fellow Brussels residents, the Bangers, beat the Goderich Grizzlies to win the D championship.
Play began in the tournament on Friday night with a game between the Tavistock Merchants and the host Brussels Tigers, which the Merchants won. At the same time, up in Ethel, the Monkton Muskrats defeated the Goderich Grizzlies.
In other first-round play, the Walton Brewers defeated the Delaware Highlanders, the Goulding Park Selects fell to the Wroxeter/Wingham Rippers and the Tavistock Yard Goats beat the Brussels Bangers, all on Friday night.
The first round continued on Saturday morning with the Toronto Junior Batmen beating the Kitchener Selects, the Harwood Corners defeating the Fullarton A’s and the Rockwood Rush falling to the Mitchell Mets.
Moving into the championship and consolation rounds, on the championship side of things, the Tavistock Merchants and Monkton Muskrats squared off at noon on Saturday, with the Merchants claiming victory, sending the Muskrats to the consolation bracket, followed by a game between the Wroxeter/Wingham Rippers and the Walton Brewers, which the Brewers lost.
The Toronto Junior Batmen beat the Tavistock Yard Goats in the championship round and the Mitchell Mets beat the Harwood Corners to face the Batmen in one of the two A championship semi-finals.
On the consolation side of the tournament, the Brussels Tigers beat the Goderich Grizzlies on Saturday morning, the Delaware Highlanders beat the Goulding Park Selects just after noon, the Kitchener Selects beat the Brussels Bangers and the Fullarton A’s beat the Rockwood Rush, both on Saturday afternoon.
In the championship rounds, the Brussels Bangers beat the Rockwood Rush and the Goderich Grizzlies beat the Goulding Park Selects in the D championship, setting up a final game between the Bangers and the Grizzlies, which the Bangers would go on to win.
In C championship action, the Kitchener Selects beat the Fullarton A’s and the Brussels Tigers beat the Delaware Highlanders to set up a C championship final between Kitchener and Brussels which went Brussels’ way.
In the B bracket, the Tavistock Yard Goats beat Harwood Corners and the Monkton Muskrats beat the Wroxeter/Wingham Rippers to set up a Yard Goats/Muskrats final game, which the Yard Goats would go on to win.
In the A championship, the Tavistock Merchants triumphed over the Walton Brewers and the Toronto Junior Batmen beat the Mitchell Mets en route to a Batmen victory in the A final.
