U10 A Southwest Admirals win gold in Preston

Last weekend, the U10 A Southwest Admirals were in Preston, Ontario near Cambridge for the 66th annual Preston International Hockey Tournament, where the locals won gold over the Lake Erie North Stars.
The tournament began for the Admirals on Friday with a 4-3 win over the Cambridge Hawks, followed by a 5-2 win over the Kingston Canadians. On Saturday, the team continued its winning ways with a 4-2 victory over the Guelph Gryphons and a 7-0 shutout over the St. Catharines Falcons.
That sent the locals to the semi-finals where they promptly beat the Woolwich Wildcats by a score of 4-2, followed by a 6-2 win over the Lake Erie North Stars in the finals.
In regular season play over the weekend, beginning on Sunday, the U13 A Admirals lost to the Southeast Surge in Seaforth by a score of 6-3, the U15 A Admirals lost to the Midwest 49ers in Clinton by a score of 8-1, the U11 B team beat the Tri-Centre Junior Attack in Hensall by a score of 7-4, the U14 A team beat the Tri-Centre Junior Attack in Seaforth by a score of 3-2, the U16 A team beat the West Coast White Caps in Clinton by a score of 3-1 and the U12 A Admirals lost to the Southeast Surge by a score of 4-3 on the road.
One day earlier, on Saturday, Jan. 10, the U11 B Admirals beat the Midwest 49ers in Walkerton by a score of 6-4, the U11 A team shutout the Bruce Grey Bulls in Chesley by a score of 5-0, the U13 A Admirals beat the Tri-Centre Junior Attack on the road by a score of 3-0, while the U13 B team lost to the Southeast Surge in Harriston by a score of 4-2.
Also that day, the U14 A Admirals beat the West Coast White Caps in Zurich by a score of 1-0, the U12 A team beat the West Coast White Caps in Seaforth by a score of 4-1, the U16 A team beat the Bruce Grey Bulls in Southampton by a score of 3-2 and the U15 A Admirals lost to the West Coast White Caps in Brussels by a score of 6-1.
In the lone regular season game on Friday, Jan. 9, the U18 A team tied the Tri-Centre Junior Attack at two in Clinton. On Thursday, Jan. 8, the U16 A Admirals beat the West Coast White Caps in Tiverton by a score of 4-3 while, one day earlier, the U18 A team tied the Southeast Surge at two on the road.
On Tuesday, Jan. 6, the U15 A Admirals beat the Bruce Grey Bulls in Port Elgin by a score of 6-1 and, on Monday, Jan. 5, the U16 A Admirals beat the Southeast Surge in Palmerston by a score of 3-1.
On Tuesday, Jan. 13, the U18 B team played the Southeast Surge in Goderich, followed by a Jan. 14 game between the U15 B Admirals and the West Coast White Caps in Blyth and Jan. 15 games between the U12 A Admirals and the Bruce Grey Bulls and the U11 B team and the West Coast White Caps, both on the road, but scores for those games were unavailable at press time.
Looking ahead, the U14 A Admirals are heading to Newmarket for the International Silver Stick Finals, beginning with a game against the Woodstock Junior Navy Vets on Thursday, Jan. 15, followed by games the next day with the Temiskaming Shores Puckhounds and the Grand Rapids Blades and a Sunday game with the Tri-Centre Junior Attack.
In other tournament action this weekend, the U18 B Admirals will head to Wellesley for the annual Frozen Classic Cup Tournament, beginning with a game on Friday, Jan. 16 with the Talbot Trail Blazers. The next day, the team will play the Tavistock Junior Braves and the Twin Centre Junior Jacks.
In regular season action this weekend, beginning tonight, Friday, Jan. 16, the U18 A Admirals will host the Midwest 49ers in Clinton, the U15 B team will play the Tri-Centre Junior Attack on the road and the U16 A Admirals will play the Tri-Centre Junior Attack at home in Zurich.
The next day, the U15 A, U10 A and U11 A teams will all be on the road to play their Tri-Centre Junior Attack equivalents, while the U11 B Admirals will be home in Zurich to play the Southeast Surge and the U13 A team will be in Tiverton to play the West Coast White Caps.
The next day is a busy one, beginning with the U13 A Admirals on the road to play the Tri-Centre Junior Attack, the U13 B team hosting the Midwest 49ers in Blyth, the U11 B Admirals in Tara to play the Bruce Grey Bulls and the U11 A team welcoming the Midwest 49ers to Blyth. Also that day, the U15 A team will host the Bruce Grey Bulls in Clinton, the U12 A team will play the Bruce Grey Bulls in Chesley, the U16 A team will play the Southeast Surge in Clinton and the U18 A team will be on the road for a game with the Southeast Surge.
In weeknight action, on Monday, Jan. 19, the U15 B team will play the Southeast Surge in Palmerston, followed by a Jan. 20 game between the U16 A team and the Bruce Grey Bulls in Brussels and a Jan. 22 game between the U14 A Admirals and the Southeast Surge in Hensall.
